The Honorable Sam Crow now presides over federal cases in Topeka, where he grew up and earned his juris doctor degree from Washburn University School of Law. Military service is another significant aspect of Judge Crow's life. He served his country first in World War II, and then Korea. A retired Colonel in the Judge Advocate General Corps, U. S. Army Reserve, Judge Crow has lectured at several military law institutes, Washburn University School of Law, and numerous bar associations throughout the country. In private practice and public service, Judge Crow has provided his leadership and service to a wide range of civic organizations from Boy Scouts of America, Topeka Council of Churches, and on the Washburn Law School Board of Governors. He served as U. S. Magistrate at Topeka from 1975 until 1981, when President Reagan named him to fill a vacancy in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. Judge Crow sat on the federal bench in Wichita, Kansas, for ten years before he returned to Topeka. He was founding Master of "Topeka American Inn of Court" which was renamed in his honor in 1997 the "Sam A. Crow American Inn of Court." Judge Crow took senior status in 1996.
