In 1998, Defendant Shon Hopwood pled guilty to bank robbery and later was sentenced by
U.S District Judge Kopf to 12 years in prison. The U.S. Supreme Court granted two
petitions for certiorari prepared by Shon Hopwood while incarcerated. He later received a
J.D. and served as law clerk for Judge Janice Rogers Brown of the U.S. Court of Appeals.
Currently, Prof. Hopwood teaches law at Georgetown University. This is the first time that
Judge Kopf and Professor Hopwood will appear together on a panel.
This introductory and advanced guideline training conference also will include speakers
from the U.S. Sentencing Commission, U.S. Attorneys, Federal Public Defenders and
others.
