D. Kan. Wichita Division Hosts Campers from Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Kansas

Friday, July 1, 2022

On June 22, 2022, campers from the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Kansas spent a day at the federal courthouse in Wichita to learn about careers within the legal system.  U.S. Magistrate Judge Gwynne Birzer led the day’s activities. “When the members of the public seek to learn about careers in the legal system, so often they think only of lawyers and judges.  Because the legal system is made up of so many other individuals in different professions within the legal system, all of which are necessary to make the system work in an efficient manner, we thought this would be a great opportunity to expose the campers to those other professions,” shared Judge Birzer.

Campers heard presentations from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Federal Public Defenders Office, U.S. Probation Office, members of the court’s chambers staff, a court reporter, and various law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, DEA, and Department of Homeland Security.

At the end of the visit, the Boys & Girls Club camp leaders expressed thanks to all the presenters for their time, effort, and willingness to share their background and careers.
