The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts is in the process of implementing a new Sealed Document Security (SDS) system to address security vulnerabilities and strengthen the protection of sealed documents in CM/ECF. In anticipation of the SDS implementation in the District of Kansas, Chief Judge Broomes has issued Standing Order 25-4 outlining new procedures regarding the access, service, and management of sealed documents. As set forth in the order, sealed documents will continue to be filed in CM/ECF under existing procedures but will no longer be accessible or served electronically. Service must be effected by means other than CM/ECF, consistent with the Federal Rules of Procedure. The clerk’s office will serve court-generated sealed documents by U.S. Mail until further notice. Parties authorized to access a sealed document can obtain a copy from the clerk’s office at ksd_clerks_kansascity@ksd.uscourts.gov. Copies will be subject to the current docket copy fee rate.
