ANNUAL BAR MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL UPDATES FOR 2024-2025
Complete Your Renewal by August 1, 2024

Attorneys admitted to the practice of law in the District of Kansas must renew their bar membership annually to maintain active status. See D. Kan. Rule 83.5.3.  Beginning June 3, 2024, attorneys will renew their membership via CM/ECF to pay the $25 renewal fee. There is still no fee to maintain inactive or retired status. There is no longer a group pay option for renewals.

New Renewal Process!

In order to renew your bar membership, you must have a PACER account linked to your Kansas CM/ECF account, even if you are not usually/ever a filer.  If you have linked your PACER and CM/ECF accounts any time since 2015, you do not need to link them again.

Once you link your PACER and CM/ECF accounts you may renew your bar membership and future renewals will be a faster process. 

Follow the instructions below to start your renewal. 

Step 1

Start by checking your PACER and CM/ECF status

1. Login to Kansas CM/ECF.  Do you see a Civil menu item on the top menu bar?
    YES -----> you have a PACER account already linked to your CM/ECF account.  You have the access you need to renew your bar membership.  Go to Step 4.    
    NO ----> you must first obtain a PACER account and/or link your existing PACER and CM/ECF accounts.
 
Proceed to Step 2 if you need to obtain a PACER account.
Proceed to Step 3 if you have a PACER account and need to link your PACER and CM/ECF accounts.

Step 2

Obtaining a PACER Account

To obtain a PACER account, go to PACER. Click on Sign Up for an Account. If you have an account, and need to update any information, click on Manage Your Account.

Once you have obtained your PACER account you will need to link it to your CM/ECF account in Step 3.

Step 3

Linking your PACER and CM/ECF accounts

To link your PACER and CM/ECF accounts, you must have your:

  • PACER username
  • PACER password
  • CM/ECF login
  • CM/ECF password.

Forgot your password(s)?

1. Go to Kansas CM/ECF.

2. Click on Utilities on the top menu bar.

3. Click on Link a CM/ECF account to my PACER account  .

4. Enter your CM/ECF login and password.

5. Click Submit.

6. Review the names provided on the next screen.

7. Click Submit.

8. Log out, then log back in using your PACER username and password. You will now see Civil on the top menu bar.

Your PACER and CM/ECF accounts are now linked.  From this point on, you will now use your PACER username and password when accessing CM/ECF. 

Please proceed to Step 4.

Step 4

Ready to renew your bar membership!  
1. Go to Kansas CM/ECF. Do you see a Civil menu item on the top menu bar? If you do not see a Civil menu item go back to Step 1.

2. Click on Civil in the top menu bar.

3. Click on Attorney Renewal.

4. Follow more detailed steps in our Annual Attorney Registration Renewal Instructions.

Once you have completed the steps in the PDF instructions proceed to Step 5.

Step 5

Paying for your bar membership renewal

1. Select ACH or Credit Card.

2. Enter the requested account information.  You may use a card already associated with your account.

3. Confirm payment and email information on the payment summary.

4. Check the authorization box.

5. After submitting your payment, you will be returned to a green screen.  Continue to follow prompts until you see the NEF screen. 

6. Your payment is complete. 

Important! Please allow 24 hours for your Bar Status to update upon renewal completion.

Important! Do not exit the system until you see the NEF Screen. Save a copy of the Pay.gov receipt screen for your files, or in case a refund is needed.

For Refunds, send a refund request along with your Pay.gov receipt/screenshot to KSD_Refunds@ksd.uscourts.gov.

Note: If you pay by ACH any refunds will be provided via a mailed paper check. Credit Card payments will be refunded back to the credit card account.
